Collaboration and Partnerships

Over the past three years, Broadway Bound has greatly expanded our collaborative efforts with other educational, youth and arts-based organizations. Here are some of those partnerships.

The Academy for Precision Learning

The Academy for Precision Learning (APL) is an independent school for students from kindergarten through middle school. APL provides an academically rigorous curriculum coupled with a focus on social skills development that is individually tailored for all learning styles. APL allows typically developing and special needs children, with a focus on autism, to work side-by-side in small personalized classes that help every student reach their full potential.

APL describes this ground breaking partnership with Broadway Bound as follows:
Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre transforms the lives of children through active participation in theatre arts and the production with APL was a unique demonstration of this mission. This powerful local partnership demonstrates that children of all skill levels and backgrounds can be challenged and supported while developing their mental, physical and creative potential through the joy and discipline of live theatre. These performances truly demonstrated that inclusion not only works –  it’s something to be celebrated.

The Academy for Precision Learning is a K-12 school that educates typically developing students and those across the autism spectrum in an academically challenging and socially vibrant community.

Broadway Bound and APL are have been proud, local partners for 5 years, and together they offer activities that motivate students to be strong, creative, and confident. Some previous productions have included: The Wizard of Oz, Frozen, Little Shop of Horrors, and the Lion King.

These programs inspire students to reach their full potential inside and outside the classroom, through the fun and joy of live theatre. The only one of its kind throughout the country, this partnership aims to build confidence in each child, providing them with meaningful participation during each production. Not only does this program have a powerful impact on the children and families, it allows the community to come together over the magic of musical theater.

Interlochen Center for the Arts

The world’s premier summer arts program for aspiring artists in grades 3 through 12, Interlochen Arts Camp attracts students, faculty and staff from all 50 U.S. states and more than 40 countries. Each summer, 2,500 students come to Interlochen to train intensively with renowned instructors, producing more than 400 presentations in music, theatre, dance, visual arts, creative writing and motion picture arts. In 2006, Interlochen Center for the Arts was named recipient of the National Medal of Arts bestowed on individuals or institutions that have contributed substantially to the growth and advancement of the arts.

The partnership between Broadway Bound and Interlochen has created an annual scholarship for a talented student with demonstrated financial need who would not otherwise be able to attend the camp. In addition, in the summer of 2011, four Broadway Bound students were accepted into the summer camp after auditioning for the extremely competitive program in theatre arts.

The Seattle Symphony Orchestra

Broadway Bound is proud to be an Educational Partner with the renowned Seattle Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Broadway Bound has been asked to provide young actors for several of the Symphony’s Discover Music Family Concert Series, most recently for the presentation of a reading of Jean de Brunhoff’s beloved story about Babar, the little elephant, accompanied by Francis Poulenc’s evocative score, under the direction of the Symphony’s new Music Director, Ludovic Morlot.

The UMO Ensemble

In the past seventeen years, UMO Ensemble has become known as the most innovative, compelling and critically acclaimed performance company based in the Pacific Northwest. The Ensemble has performed in theaters, at festivals and in schools throughout the Northwest, the United States, Canada and Europe. UMO’s mission is to stir the human spirit and incite the imagination by providing awe, challenge and inspiration through original and compelling physical theatre. Improvisations in movement, character, vocalizing, and writing are the basis for the creation and development of new works.

Broadway Bound engaged the UMO Emsemble as a collaborative partner on creating the flying sequences for our 2009 production of PETER PAN.

Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO)

In 2010, Broadway Bound joined forces with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra to present A Broadway Symphonic Spectacular at the historic Moore Theatre in downtown Seattle. SYSO is the country’s largest youth orchestra, and this collaborative concert featured nine singers, ages 15-21, performing with a 100-piece orchestra

Seattle Public Schools (SPS)

Continuing a partnership began in 2007 with a production of DREAMGIRLS at the Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center in Rainier Beach, Broadway Bound returned to Rainier Beach High School during the 2009-10 school year to produce two musicals with students from the school –  CATS and LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, with the financial support of SPS.

In the summer of 2010 Broadway Bound produced the first South Seattle Arts Festival, culminating in the premiere of a new musical, GOD LIVES IN GLASS, that employed over 30 students from the South Seattle community. In 2011, Jimmy Nixon and Jim D’Asaro were honored with Community Service awards from The Rainier Beach High School PTSA.

In addition, Broadway Bound is honored to be a Civic Partner with the city of Seattle. The Civic Partners  program provides funding commitments to Seattle arts, heritage and cultural organizations and arts service organizations with a minimum three-year history of serving Seattle residents and visitors.
