Learn More About our Fall 2020 School Year Production

Broadway Bound ‘s professionally directed and designed school year productions have traditionally been rehearsed in our University District studios over a period of several months then been performed onstage at a Seattle theater venue.  Due to COVID-19, however, we will be producing our Fall 2020 shows differently.  As always, every child who auditions will be cast and we will continue our practice of forming multiple casts for each show.  For Fall 2020, in-person auditions will be replaced by video submissions.  Rehearsals will be conducted primarily online with some small group in-person rehearsals utilizing special singing masks and other health safety precautions. The production will be recorded, scene by scene, and edited together to create film versions of the shows that will be streamed at scheduled showings for families to enjoy.  This is a new format for us and we are learning as we go so please be aware that things may change along the way. While Fall 2020 will be very different from the past in many ways, some things at Broadway Bound will remain exactly the same – like the fun and supportive environment where kids of all skill levels and backgrounds can come together and have a blast doing musical theatre!

Cinderella for Ages 5-18

Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella is the new Broadway adaptation of the classic musical. The smart and beautiful young Ella lives in the care of her wicked, self-absorbed stepmother Madame and Madame’s two daughters, Charlotte and Gabrielle. Ella’s only friends in the world are the animals in the woods, “crazy Marie” and the revolutionary student Jean-Michel. Meanwhile in another part of the kingdom, Prince Topher is trying to find himself and learn his place in the kingdom. When his scheming advisor Sebastian suggests throwing a ball so the Prince could meet potential brides, Ella and Topher’s different worlds come together. Expect the unexpected in this clever retelling of the beloved fairytale.

Director: Kyleigh Archer
Musical Director: Stephanie Colavito

Set your Sails for Ages 10-18

Set Your Sails is a new musical by Seattle vocalist and composer (and Broadway Bound's resident musical director) Melina Karu. Featuring over a dozen original songs created just for this show, Set Your Sails combines history with myth, and a healthy dose of our modern-day fascination with tales of swashbuckling derring-do set against the backdrop of the last days of piracy. Aspiring to be a tale for the ages, this new work follows our young protagonist Johnny through a picaresque odyssey on the high seas as he encounters pirates, curses, treasure, love, and finally comes out on the other side to face his fears and his future.

Director: Jared Jones
Musical Director: Melina Karu

How Rehearsals Will Work

To protect the safety of our families, instructors, and staff, our rehearsal schedule will look differently than our typical season. 3/4th of rehearsal will be online via zoom with times typically 4:30-6:30pm for Cinderella and 6:30-8:30 for Set Your Sails. We will ask individual students to come to our studios, masked, to record professionally for our final musical video, in compliance with Phase 2 of WA Safe Start Plan. Instead of having set rehearsal days of the week, Broadway Bound will be calling rehearsal according to character. Not every scene requires every actor and it's important that directors have the chance to work on scenes with potentially fewer actors. There will also be a few Saturday rehearsals but we will let you know those dates as soon as we know.

Please keep in mind, this is a new format for us and we are learning as we go so please be aware that things may change along the way.
