Virtual Summer Camp FAQ
Virtual Camps are 180 minutes on Monday-Thursday, Friday will included a 30 minute check in with campers and then we will all gather electronically to view all the performances. To find out when your camp Zoom meeting is, go to our summer camp schedule and click on your camp for the details.
Performances will be shown the Friday after the camp ends beginning at 11:45 am. In order to create a production that represents the amazing work of the kids in the production, we will take the week after camp to edit and then have a performance watch party for friends and family. This schedule allows for instructors to spend the most time possible with our students during the weak without rushing to put together their show.
For each virtual camp, we have one adult instructor, who is a professional in the industry, and one CIT (or Counselor in Training) who are between the ages of 13 and 19, to assist the instructor. Each camp may have Broadway Bound Staff members dropping into the camps to check on instructors.
Broadway Bound has planned our virtual camps to run as close as possible like our typical "in person camps". We will start off the day with theatre games related to dramatic skills and improv. Next camps will move into sessions of vocal lessons, acting/rehearsing, and choreography that is appropriate to do inside (with small breaks in between). There will also be an hour each session where students are encouraged to work independently on their material, while the instructor mentors others in small group sessions. Broadway Bound has worked hard to create a balanced program that gives students enough time to learn the material, while being conscious about learning and screen time needs.
Each camp is accompanied by a specially curated activity packet. This is filled with typical activities and crafts that would be found in our "in-person camps", their script, and extra goodies to do at home that are age appropriate. We will make this available to print at the convenience of your home, as well as available for pick up at U-Heights the Monday your camp begins, using curbside pickup, social distancing measures. The majority of crafts we offer will have video tutorials to accompany these packs.
No, even though we are moving to an online format, our virtual camps will run similarly to our "in person" camps. This summer we will offer a variety of camps that delve into the material in different ways.
In order to keep our Zoom meetings secure and to ensure students’ safety while using Zoom, Broadway Bound staff are trained to follow best practices for securing our classrooms.
These best practices include, but are not limited to:
- E-mail invitation, Meeting ID, & password are required to participate in meetings
- A Broadway Bound staff person will be the administrator of each class and a staff person or teaching artist will be in each breakout room
- All video guests enter a “Waiting Room” and the hosts (Broadway Bound Staff) manually accept guests to enter the meeting
- Zoom’s new “Security” button provides immediate tech support help
- Students agree not to share links or record sessions for any purpose
- Broadway Bound will not make recordings of class sessions public for any reason.
Families do not need a zoom account to participate in the zoom rehearsals. Campers will need access to a device (such as a computer or tablet) with a camera and a microphone, internet, a chair, and some free floor space in which to dance.
Broadway Bound is committed to providing access to theatre arts, regardless of situation. And we understand the financial and greater economic impacts of COVID-19 on the Seattle community and our families. Because of this commitment, we are still offering scholarships for our summer camps, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for a scholarship form and we can discuss the particulars of the scholarships.
For all camps there is a cancellation fee of $150 if less than 1 week before the start of camp. No refunds will be given if cancellation is made after 5:00 pm on the Friday before camp begins.
